As I sit in your room and watch you sleep
You are so beautiful, perfect, it makes me want to weep

Then something stirs and music begins to play
And I realise my worst fear as its the dawn of a new day

See it was all a dream as I know you are not really lying there
But those hours of sleep, we play, bond and giggle as I watch you nightly from my chair

They may have taken you too early so we didn't get time to play
But you are in here via my sleep, in my dreams every night, nobody can take that away

Its been a year now and we both still feel so very numb
But ever day I take my strength and inspiration from your wonderful, beautiful, caring mum

You would have been so proud to know her as you grew side by side
Our memories and pictures of you give us comfort and so much pride

Well today is your first birthday, in itself a concept difficult to handle
As there isn't a party, a cake for you to blow out that solitary candle

But Lou and others please don't despair
Because every night we close our eyes and you are are instantly there

We still feel you presence, and remember your smell, it gives us such a lift
Because on the 19th February 2010 to meet you briefly was our ultimate gift

So take care my sweet for this day we want to celebrate
and bad thoughts, anger and hurt we will now look to relegate

So after spending time with you today in your field we are getting a train, because...
London beckons, actually its the Palladium to see the Wizard of Oz

Mum and I will spend time together, laugh cry enjoy each other, there is no hurry
We will raise a glass, toast you, share memories, privately and indulge in a curry

So as I close this ode as I am sat here alone
I truly, truly wish I was like Dorothy, so I could click my heels and utter those immortal words"there is no place like home"

That the world was introduced to your little toe(s)

That bittersweet day of Feb nineteen

When Mother Nature became so mean

Not a day goes by when we don’t love you more and more

Ode to Louise

The first time Jacki saw you, she said you are a Louise

Maybe cause of your face, feet, fingers or your chubby little knees

It is strange but it is true that whatever names are on your list

They just fade into the background when you meet your little miss

Now Louise be grateful that you were born a girl and not a BOY

Because Pepe, Glenn, Jamie, Daniel, Emiliano, Javier, Stevie, Albert, Dirky, Fernando Torres, Rafa Norbury … was otherwise your name to enjoy

So this Ode to you is not about us all here being morbid and sad,

This is your time Louise to realise the escape you’ve had from number 1 embarrassing dad

You won’t have to see your baby friends in their pretty little frocks

Whilst you are dressed in a red suit, red hat and your Liverpool socks

And years to come on your birthdays you wont get that embarrassing card

From your mum and dad and of course the cat – Peppard

And you wont have to sit there whilst we all sit around and laugh

As I show to your closest friends the picture gallery, entitled “Louise as baby in the bath”

And years later at your birthday party wondering why your friends are glancing

As I make that walk, strike up that pose and attempt my best dad dancing

So don’t tell any future brothers or sisters of what’s potentially to come

Let us provide that little surprise to them as their dad and mum

But be rest assured and certain that that three of us will never be apart

Because on that night in Frimley we gave you our heart

And now the time has come, my sweet, with us by your side

To board the train for “sleeping” boys and girls and take that morning town ride……..

This was our Angel, Louise who was born "sleeping" on the 19th February 2010

I can not start to describe how empty both off us feel, it constantly feels as though something is missing or the feeling you get when you are lost in a strange place. The same as when you leave your home and you know you have forgotten something, magnify that by ,000's of times and that is our continual feeling.

Transpose that with a feeling of attending the birth of your daughter, seeing her, perfect as she enters this cruel world, get to hold her, love her, cuddle her - then have to hand her back, sounds heartbreaking and it was, but also a very very special, precious moment that will stay vividly with us for ever.

We have had so many lovely messages of support and love from all over the world from family, friends and people that have such a spirit of humanity and to you all THANK YOU it means so much.

At some point I will write my own ode to my daughter, but can't quite do it at this time, so have elected to reproduce a lovely, poignant poem sent to us by Karen @Karen230683

SON “Dad, my mates in school told me that Liverpool won the European Cup for the 5th time in 2005 - are they right dad?”

DAD “Yes son, it’s true, but they were dead lucky son, all the way through the tournament”

SON “Why dad?”

DAD “Well in the group stages …”

SON “What dad, did they have a team from Azerbaijan, Israel, and Ireland in their group?”

DAD “Well no, they had Monaco, Deportivo la Coruna, and Olympiakos”

SON “Well they still sound like 3 easy teams to me dad”

DAD “Actually Monaco reached the final the year before, Olympiakos had won their league 7 times out of the previous 8 seasons, and Deportivo finished above the galacticos of Real Madrid in their league”.

SON “Jeez dad, that sounds like quite a difficult group then”.

DAD “yeh I suppose your right son, but they were still lucky - it took a mishit shot by Gerrard against Olympiakos to get through”.

SON “oh is that the goal were your hero Andy Gray goes berserk shouting “you beauty, you beauty, what a hit son, what a hit!!!!”

DAD “yes son it is”

SON “oh ok. Well what happened in the last 16 dad, who did they draw?”

SON “Bayer who?”

SON “Bloody hell dad, they sound good”.

SON “Oh - well, who next then dad”

SON “How the f#*k did they get past them Dad?”

DAD “Well they did - they won 2-1 at home, and cruised to a 0-0 away draw without Juve having hardly any chances”.

SON “Were Juve s*#t at that time - had all their decent players gone or something?”

DAD “Well actually they still had players like Del Piero, Nedved, Ibrahimovic, Thuram, and Buffon in the side. And they won Serie A a few weeks later.”

SON “wow, they beat the Italian champions elect - which p**s easy team did they get in the semi then?”

DAD “Chelsea”

SON “Chelsea - for f#*ks sake - what a p!*s easy draw - they’ve won nothing,Everton have won more than them”.

DAD “Well that season they won the Premiership and League Cup but the Red s**te didn’t let them score in 186 minutes of football”

SON “Jesus Christ - so Liverpool beat the English Champions elect too”

DAD “Yes son, they bloody well did”.

SON “So after all that I suppose all the good teams had been knocked out”

DAD “Not quite son, AC Milan awaited them in the final”

SON “No way - aren’t they the 2nd most successful team in the competition’s history”.

DAD “Yes son they are”

SON “So were Liverpool lucky because Milan had all their good players out with injuries”

DAD “No - they had Shevchenko, Crespo, Maldini, Nesta, Cafu, Kaka, Stam, Dida, Gattuso, Pirlo, and Seedorf”.

SON “Your ‘avin a laff”

DAD “It gets worse son, Milan were cruising, 3-0 up at half-time”.

SON “What happened, did they have 3 men sent off in the second half - how did Liverpool get back into the game?”

DAD “No, Milan had no men sent off, the Red sh**e scored 3 goals in 6 minutes”

SON “Against the best defence in Europe”

DAD “Yes!!!, against the best defence in Europe”

SON “So what happened next - extra time?”

DAD “Yes son, and Dudek made the luckiest save ever to stop a Shevchenko shot from a yard”

SON “Why was it lucky dad - did it hit him on the arse, nose, shoulder or something”

DAD “No son, his hand”

SON “Well aren’t goalies meant to save shots with their hands”

DAD “Yeah, but that’s besides the point”

SON “Then what”

DAD “Penalties!”

SON “English teams are crap at penalties”

DAD “Not this f#*kin time they weren’t - they only missed one. And that’s how Liverpool became the luckiest team to win the European Cup”.

SON “But I bet when they brought the cup home there was hardly anyone to watch as all Liverpool fans live anywhere but Liverpool you say. How many was there, 5,000 or so?”

DAD “1 million people lined the streets”.

SON “So let’s get this straight dad - Liverpool had 3 good teams in their group, they then knocked out a team who had beaten Real Madrid 3-0, they then knocked out the future Serie A champions, then knocked out the future Premiership champions, before coming back from 3-0 down to beat the 2nd most successful club in Europe. And then the whole population of Liverpool came out to welcome them home!!!!”

DAD “That about sums it up son”

SON “Dad?”

DAD “Yes son”

SON “Can I have a Liverpool shirt for my birthday next week,

Wedding Ode !!

It started two years ago at the Birmingham NEC

Little did I know then Jacki had her eye on me

We were there for work; it was a normal trade week

Evenings were less tame, late nights and plenty of cheek

A week together of bonding and fun oh and working

For Jean’s benefit (boss) it was very professional and no shirking.

So that was the start of this journey here to today

A week later, another show, we were back at play

This time in Telford the Commercial Vehicle show

What I was doing there I really don’t know

A night on the town and again lots to drink

Things were starting to happen, you know nudge nudge, wink wink.

So back to the hotel for the last drink of the night

I had a good feeling about this, something was right

So at the end of the evening Jacki picked up her bag

Back to my room I said fancy a ………

To continue with this theme would be ill fated

There are children and mums here and the rest is x rated.

The following Saturday and it’s our first proper date

It was a friends wedding as it happens, now you can call that fate

A wonderful venue on the outskirts of Henley

To our first dance together Angels, by Robbie…. Williams

So a couple now and a romantic weekend away

Off to Paris as a surprise style all the way

City of sights so which one did we rate

To us it was the place that hosted World Cup 98

A tour round the stade de France all spoken in French

A sneaky walk on the pitch and a sit on the bench

So the guide finished the tour and asked was there a question

What time does the restaurant close was my suggestion.

So only after a month I was already hooked

Engagement, wedding, honeymoon, all mentally booked

So our next adventure a holiday in Paradise

In the middle of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives to be precise

Two weeks of luxury on our Island Vaku

Sun… Sea…. Sand…. and there was something else to do

The last night though Jacki got a big shock

When she saw in our room a very big cock

Must have been due to the impending storm

But I don’t want you to worry it was a small scare

Until a flying one emerged from under Jacki’s hair.

But I will stop the story there, as this is a happy day

And the psychiatrist confirms the nightmares would go away

So the story moves on to the Christmas Break

My mums or Jacki’s a decision to make

Which of the family’s were we going to approach?

The wrath of the mums, I ‘d prefer the Vaku cockroach

But Jacki is smart I am grateful, for us

Split the day into two she said what’s all the fuss

Then millennium celebration apart, which was not the plan

Jacki is in Dublin with Morri, Suzie and Sam

To a reveal a little secret not well known

I had a drunken proposal that night left on my phone.

So the scene is getting set for the romance in you all

Saturdurday May the 13^th Padstow, Cornwall

The day was blistering hot the sun did not hide

So intelligently we took the Camel bike ride

The trail is from Wadebridge to the harbour at Padstow

I was beavering for a place to do it you know, the proposal

A perfect setting quick stop, any excuse for a fag

The ring, Ah yes ring back at the room in my bag

So all the way back to get the ring box

Where can I hide it my shorts or my socks

It must be a place where Jacki could not clock it

So it found its home in my left pocket

So for an uncomfortable 5 miles I could not divulge

What was causing my shorts to have this big bulge?

But the moment arrived and the answers was yes

And that is why Jacki’s sat here in that dress.

The next big event our engagement day was here

I was still hung over from the previous nights Guinness and Beer

Another hot day and the weddings getting nearer

A weekend to remember thanks to England’s Alan Shearer

Now the planning began for the big event

We knew from the start it would be money well spent

So my dilemma, the best man, who will take the floor

Most of you know them it’s one of four

Will it be Peter is that one fair?

No he is too funny and he has more hair

So Andy is next, hairs not the thing

But at Pete and Angie’s wedding he mislaid the ring

Now next there is Kevin, gray hair is OK

But Jacki wanted him as a bridesmaid for her special day

And last but not least, Kelly was free

But with Holly, India and Cameron Judy wouldn’t forgive me

So out of the four whom can I pick?

The answer was obvious best man, no chief chick

What can I say about this friend of ours

Apart from the obvious, best men don’t wear bras

So as you will have guessed she is not a guy

But friendship like this money can’t buy

We have known each other for 17 odd year

Met at college in Windsor in the heart of Berkshire

Our paths crossed originally in the form of a date

It soon became clear that friendship was our fate

A man could not get such a loyal close friend

Who parties like no other right up til the end?

Clarry give me a break next and don’t give away my life

Ah who care now, job done Jackis now my wife

So on to Jacki what can I say

Anything to risky and I will certainly pay

You are in my mind and my soul, so we will never be apart

You have my body and my life and now my heart, thank you

And so to the end of this attempt at my wedding rhyme

You will be pleased to hear its now Best Mans time

But before I sit and cringe at the rest

I can only relay what makes this the best

Apart from this whole day what makes this a delight

For once I am allowed to sleep with a married woman tonight.
